Battlestar Galactica on Friday!

<< < (9/25) > >>

Chesire Cat:
The thing is a benevolent dictator has the best interest of the people at heart.  So is it really a bad thing?

His actions arent selfish or made with a desire to keep power, they are made to keep the fleet safe.  And I would say he is the most qualified to do the job.  But the undertones of the show are trying to reflect racism, not an abuse of democracy or anything else.

Border Reiver:
And how then, do you deal with a non-benevolent dictator?  It is only a few steps from "I'm doing this for all our good."  to "Sod your needs, I need this to prop up my own power/to benefit me and my friends."

Ozymandias:
Well, in the case of BSG, you're more than likely fucked if you have a malevolent dictator, since that dictator is the only thing between you and the annihilation of your species.

Chesire Cat:
Yeah Border Reiver why are you so intent on siding with the fucked rebels?

If it was me, I'd back the team that *might* survive, not the team that will not survive.

supersheep:
Because they're right? Maybe they're not doing it the right way or whatever, and they'll probably end up messing things up horribly, but the whole point of the thing is that if they give up on democracy, then why bother?
