The simplicity of the battle system was a good thing (they should have just made it a little faster-paced), and the plot wasn't THAT cliche, at least, not in context. I mean, the plucky hero defeats evil empire is like the basis for the plot of EVERY RPG EVER; I for one thought Skies did it with a decent level of originality.

And also yes. Fina was hot.

Seriously am I mis-remembering or wasn't it pretty much explicitly stated that they were both "with" the main character in THAT way?

It wasn't explicitly stated, but it was strongly implied.
