It seems fairly straightforward to me.  Dora has major major insecurity issues.  Marten didn't want to set them off by telling her about something that didn't mean anything to him.  She'll get pissed, he'll get defensive, they'll both get over it. It's called being in a relationship.  

Although, just once I'd like to see her do something stupid or insensitive that really pushes his buttons and pisses him off.
