People ask me what year I'm in. I say it is my fifth calendar year, but really it is the same as my fourth academic year because of my co-op jobs.
Numbers make things a lot more sensible. They are intuitive and simple.

Super-senior is so much better than pre-/post-junior, which is what they called the 4th years who were staying for a 5th. I never really got that whole thing.

As I recall, your standing (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) was determined by the number of credit hours completed.  If it took you eight years to finish all your classes, you still were called whatever class you were in relative to the number of credits completed.

Less than 34 credit hours = freshman
33 to 68 credit hours = sophomore
69 to 100 credit hours = junior
101 to 124 credit hours = senior

or some such classification scheme.

I have a motherfucking Hawaiian grandmother. Like actually Hawaiian.

She is badass, too. She is kinda crazy, and can drink even the most seasoned alcoholic under the table, and it doesn't even affect her! And she is so nice and awesome! And man, how am I related to someone who is not evil??? She is great.

Apparently despite my constant bitching about how things are at Akademi (even while I am there), the producer/show hostess totally thinks I am the most polite person there. Also I am more punctual than the fucking professors. I WIN AT LIFE.

Yesterday I got my amp back and I am happy as shit about it. I'm bringing it to rehearsal with me today, assuming all goes well. This time I'm going to play live in front of millions, heh. We'll see how that goes.

Blog Thread:

I wonder if it's because of the economic uncertainty that so many people have been looking for books on black magic, voodooism and the occult in general?

I certainly don't mind nominally intelligent people doing research.  I just don't know why they don't just do it online first like everyone else.

I guess that some people think that "actual books" are somehow going to be a better source.  Even though it's probably written by some "expert" who got the bulk of his info online.  It's not like you are going to find any significant works in a public library system.

I do mind that many of these books get stolen or "lost".

I am grateful that I don't have to order nonfiction books.

David Attenborough's horrendous fucking lisp
What?
the Sigourney Weaver version
What??

yeah, i know. i love Attenborough but it seems like whoever wrote the narration for Planet Earth deliberately wrote him sentences that are nothing but alliteration just to annoy Americans.
stuff like:
"thuthly the thimmering thalamanders thand upright and thlurp up thouthands of thwooping inthects, while thimultaneously thinging thilly thalamander thongs to thooth their thultry thallamander thouls"

i never noticed it before but now it's hard to focus on anything else.  it's like he's narrating while drunk. compare that to the Sigourney Weaver narrated version where her voice is bold, calm, precise, and enunciated in such a way that it would be impossible to misunderstand and it's not hard to understand why they changed narrators for the American version.

to be honest, the signourney weaver version always pissed me off because the only reason i could see for there being two versions of planet earth is that there are people in north america who don't like listening to british people talk and would rather listen to an american, despite the fact that they speak the same language in both countries. i've watched the series a billion times and maybe it's just me but i don't really hear any lisp at all, just a dude talking about some nature.

Blog Thread,

Two awesome things:

1) Unless I become super dumb and fail classes, I will be graduating in December! Whooooooo me.

2) Went thrift shopping today once I got back to Fargo, with a friend of mine. We got the best things. I scored an argyle sweater, Trivial Pursuit, and this totally awesome trunk that is now in the trunk of my car because there is no room in my apartment. He got a trench coat, a western shirt, this kids' book called "The Tree That Ruled the World" or something like that, and a skateboard. Plus we got delicious food and I snagged a box of Pocky at the international food market (it is gone already).

It is a good day!

Jævla Bøg-Tråd: Today I:

Dug a big-ass root out of our garden
Fixed the hole in my sock
Went to the movies and watched Monsters vs. Aliens
Fixed up my shield's edges
Played a tabletop RPG.

Basically I have been super active and it has been a cool day. Tomorrow me and some friends will do the best thing; paly hide and seek city style. A whole bunch of us go downtown, split up in groups of two, and send one group off wandering. Five minutes later everybody splits up and starts looking for them. The first ones to find them wins. It's a large area we are playing in, takes probably an hour to walk around the edges and fifteen minutes to cross the place. The hiders isn't really going to hide, they are just going to walk around and try to dodge around corners if they see someone. It will be really fun and cool and stuff.

Blog Thread

This weekend was good. I went to a Passover Seder. I cleaned my room. I had a date for the first time in (embarrassed to say). We're going out again on Thursday. It was Easter. Several of my friends who don't usually attend my church came with me for Easter services. Yes, this was a good weekend.

That is fun and cool. At the same time! So you set up the boundaries before you play? Sounds pretty rad.

Blogallicious,

I spent the entire day in the Library while it was sunny outside. However, I caught up on all the studying I had promised myself to do, and am now guaranteed more fun times. I also found out I'm going up to St. Andrews on the 17th for a friend's surprise birthday party which is fairly rad.

Also, in an attempt to be healthier I'm doing this: http://www.hundredpushups.com/

Also also, benji, at least it was a first date with promise of more dating.  I don't think I've ever legitimately been on a date. Stuff just kinda happens usually.

to be honest, the signourney weaver version always pissed me off because the only reason i could see for there being two versions of planet earth is that there are people in north america who don't like listening to british people talk and would rather listen to an american, despite the fact that they speak the same language in both countries. i've watched the series a billion times and maybe it's just me but i don't really hear any lisp at all, just a dude talking about some nature.

I've worked at libraries before and have shown plenty of documentaries in my time and I will be perfectly honest here: a lot of people have no idea what the hell some of these older British men are talking about when they speak. The real killer is the context; listening to Hugh Laurie talk about his experiences on set is one thing; even if you don't understand a word here and there you'll still get the gist of who and what he's talking about. But Attenborough talking about strange species that do weird things in places the audience has never heard of? It's tricky enough without listening to a guy who sometimes approaches vowels from a completely different angle from you.

That said, I never liked Weaver as a narrator; she's awfully dry and deadpan. Clear as a bell, maybe, but boring.

Weird. Maybe it is because I am Canadian but I have no trouble understanding Attenborough or most Brits I've heard. Mad Max was a little hard with the original Australian audio (gazoleen!) but I've not had any troubles with contemporary BBC productions.

I have no problems with it, but I'm also a fan of Monty Python and various other British comedies. I can generally understand British English it fine, but man, some of the pronounciations even are completely different. My favorite of those being aluminium.

yeah, i have no problem understanding British English or, because it apparently wasn't clear, David Attenborough; he's one of my favorite narrators. but on Planet Earth his slight lisp is far more obvious and it's exacerbated by the fact that the writers thought would be funny to have him read sentences comprised entirely of S words.

Also I would like to point out that the combination of Sailor Moon and faux-Kerouac / Sonic Youth spelling is perhaps the purest distillation of what this forum is that we have yet been presented with.
