So ok, my name (Ben) is historically the short form of Benjamin ("son of the south" / "son of the right hand"), Benaiah ("Yahweh has built"), Benedict ("blessed") and many Germanic names starting with "bern" (bear) such as Bernard (combined with the suffix "hard" for "brave, hardy").  I have a feeling that by itself the closest correlation is to the Arabic "Bin", which I believe is simply "son of" (anyone know for sure?)

Man, I wish I knew all these alternate names when I was a kid and teachers were calling me "Benjamin."  Would have been nice to say my name is actually short for Benedykt, the Polish form of Benedict, or that it was short for Bernat, the Hungarian form of Bernard, or perhaps Benaiah, and is she perhaps being anti-semitic against me assuming I had such a common English name (I know Benjamin has Hebrew roots, but hopefully he/she wouldn't).  I know that sounds like I would be being a shit-heel but god damn, you should have seen how some of these asshole teachers spoke to me like I was an idiot for supposedly not knowing my own name.

The name is Edward. Means 'rich guard'. Hahahahahaha.

Blaggy,

I go back to work tomorrow and will try not to murder anyone.

Spent today doing yard work and having a generally good day but then people started talking to me and it made me want to punch them in the face because I rather like my thoughts unspoiled, thankyouplease.

Tearing out rose bushes bare-handed is not fun.

Yeah, how dare someone talk to you. The nerve of some people!

I have an assignment due by 11pm today that I have kinda started, and am still dithering over how to write stuff. It is not going well, and will probably be submitted a day late. Then I have to study for an exam on the 11th, and I swear I know nothing about the course (though I actually do know at least a bit) and am sure I'm gonna fail it. Then I have an essay to write by the 18th for a course I really don't like so it will probably be done the day before it is due as well, and I don't want to hand that one in late because it is due the day before my birthday. Ugh. I love uni, don't you?

My name (Norbert) translates to "Northern Brightness" or "Famous Northman" in old german.  my name also reached its height in popularity in the US in the 1920s.

Common grade school nicknames were "Nerdbert", "Nerdbird", "Nerdface", and "Fuckface". But that changed once i got into high school (and had a growth spurt) and it was cool to be different.

I'm thinking of naming one of my boys Brutus.

My first name is Stephen which is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "crown, garland". Variant of Stephanos.

My middle name and the one I go by is Eric which is of Old Norse origin, and its meaning is "forever or alone, ruler". The original form is Erik.

Okay, I did sound really crude there. ><

I just...I'm very much a loner, you know? I really don't like being around other people that much, especially when my father starts just going on and on about absolutely nothing and I'd rather not hear it.

Oh, one other thing - I saw an old friend of mine today, who is finally away from her abusive ex. That is good news. He'll probably be in jail soon for some stupid shit he's been pulling.

Oh, we're doing names? Cool.

Technically I guess my first name doesn't mean anything, as Harry is usually short for Harold or Henry, but in my case it's not short for anything.

My surname is Saddler.

I don't know what it means.

Supposedly Lindsey means, "Lincoln's marsh; island of linden trees". And my last name is an Anglo-Saxon name meaning "son of Agace," whoever the heck that is. Don't really care. The only interesting fact about my name is that I was named after the Bionic Woman, Lindsay Wagner, but my mom liked it spelled better with an "e".

Why am I reminded, oh so joyously, of Lie Bot?

I would be Awful Bot. I was lecturing my cat about how he should not murder baby bunnies but instead murder birds and spiders instead and the whole time I was laughing hysterically. My cat obviously did not understand. He also did not understand why we took it away and then refused to let him outside.

I can see the bunny's mum outside.

From the Hebrew name חַנָּה (Channah) which meant "favour" or "grace".

Uh, ok. I was named this so that I didn't have the exact same name as the aunt I was being named after. My cousin Anna was born a few months after me, so there ended up being a Big Anna and a Little Anna anyway, just with a Hannah in there to make it more confusing. Good work, relatives. I was going to be Elisabeth, but that would have made me Elisabeth Taylor, which would have gotten me teased in school a lot (apparently?). We found out later that my dad's grandmother was called Hannah, so there is a link back that way or something.

I love my name:

GAVIN
Medieval form of GAWAIN. Though it died out in England, it was reintroduced from Scotland in the 20th century.
Possibly from the Welsh name Gwalchgwyn which meant "white hawk". Sir Gawain was one of the knights of the Round Table in Arthurian legends. The 14th-century romantic poem 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight' tells how Gawain beheaded the Green Knight in single combat.

Oh, yes, my name is (as I said) a short form of Sebastian, which means "from Sebaste" in Latin, and Sebaste was a town in Asia Minor. The name derives from the Greek sebastos, meaning venerable. The name is shared with a saint, a crusader, and the band Belle and Sebastian.

I'm cool with that.

I think 'derive' derives from 'derivos'.

That was my first thought, so I went up and checked it in the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary. They say it doesn't:

Quote from: SOD
ORIGIN Old French & mod. French dériver or Latin derivare, from de- DE- 1 + rivus brook, stream.

James, much like Jacob, means "he who supplants". For those not in the know, "supplants" basically means "usurps" which I guess is ok.

My surname, I was disappointed to learn, is just the Hungarian equivalent of Stephenson. I was hoping it was going to be something awesome but no. Only lame names for James.

I put "Wolfram Alpha" into Wolfram Alpha and it came up with no results. Also the idea of googling Wolfram Alpha tickles me somewhat. I'm not entirely sure why as it is in fact a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

Tommy's story is really really great.

I laid down tracks for the Polymaths full-length today. I'm really excited. Most of what I did was just recording guitar solos. I stole my brother's bassist's Russian Big Muff, patched it through a Fix My Duck and ran it through my little Fender Frontman. The sound is neat because it's a big splash of hot, thick distortion across the band's intricate but ultimately light pop music. One song has what Craig called a "regal"-sounding solo , a couple of them have my clumsy attempts at J Mascis worship, and another song simply has me holding giant feedback drones across the verse. My contributions aside, however, this record is going to sound really great. I'm excited for everyone to hear it.

I love the way that you worded it, so it pretty much sounds like, "Except for what I did, this is awesome!"

Blaggy,

Left work early today because I was having trouble dealing with people and voices going on in my head. Was so glad when I was alone in my car and could start screaming and swearing at myself without anyone staring at me. I hate it when people stare...it's like, yes, I have a fucking problem, please stop looking at me like I'm an exhibit. Thank you.

So I ended up getting my paycheck (130 dollars for two weeks work, yay) and coming home early and just drove around town with some friends listening to an old Metallica cassette and messing around.

I put "Wolfram Alpha" into Wolfram Alpha and it came up with no results. Also the idea of googling Wolfram Alpha tickles me somewhat. I'm not entirely sure why as it is in fact a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
People have put it in before. It answers!
Also try: "men in united states" and "women in united states"
Also: "open the pod bay doors"

I have to say, it's a rather odd and unpleasant feeling to be judged because I'm not gay. I don't really think it should matter what my sexuality is in a place that is encouraging people to be more aware of all things queer! If I wasn't on some level, I would not be there!

Explanation - I went to this thing called Guerilla Queer Bar, where the gay community takes over a straight bar for a night. I think the concept of it is really cool and I have friends who've gone and I heard mostly good things about it. Well, one of my friends was going and one of my coworkers were going and so I was all hey, I think I'll go and have a good time too! I was earlier than both of them, but I found some of the people that I was in the drag show with, so I hung around with them. (Me being the anti-social-butterfly I am and being too petrified to mingle with strangers.) Anyways! One of them asked me I was gay, to which I said, "I'm mostly straight, but gender queer in the sense I don't feel people have to follow gender rules." She seemed ok with that, but I could feel her silently judging me for not being a lesbian. Then I overheard one of the other girls ask if I was I was queer when I had my back turned. And I'm all, what the hell why is this a big dealllllll. So pretty much after that I found out I would have possibly been stuck with these guys for over an hour before either of the two people I actually wanted to hang out with showed up, so I left and went and hung out with someone else instead.

We got kicked out of a park and it was fun.

With cake ownership set to C and cake consumption set to K, then C + K = 0.  So indeed as one consumes a cake, one simultaneously deprives oneself of cake ownership.

I am so lonely.
I am so lonely that I hang out with my friend who has a thing for me and has an actually crazy girlfriend who thinks we are sleeping together and calls us both at all hours to see if we are.
I am so lonely that I go out with dudes who I have only met once at a party or whatever and end up having a really awkward goodbye that involves kisses and then I can never see them again because I am a taken lady and cannot have kisses.
I am so lonely I befriend the most boring person at my new work and promise we'll go out to see Star Trek.
I am so lonely I wait for my absent boyfriend's friends to ask me to come hang out and then never show up because I am too shy.
I am so lonely that tonight I am going to a warehouse party with a dude I have only met once whilst he was dressed in drag and he will be the only person I know there and I do not even know who is playing or what a warehouse party entails and god I hope he doesn't try to make kisses because my conscience is fed up.

I want my boyfriend back.
