The Government gives you $950. What do you do?

every three months, for reasons i'm still not sure about but which i'm guessing are related to the fact that i'm in school, the government of ontario sends me $60. i don't really know why. how's $20 a month supposed to help me in any significant way? i put it in my bank account and eventually it goes toward food to hold off dying of starvation a little while longer.

for the purposes of this thread, i'll say i'd put that $950 toward a new laptop. this thing's six years old and has gotten so unbearably slow it'll probably go any day now.

Currently my financial situation is such that the $950 will hardly make a difference.  I mean, I know there are a lot of people who are presently worse off than I am, but at the moment my rent is doubling (to encompass half my pay) due to my room-mate moving out, I need to buy a fridge and a dryer to replace the ones he'll be taking with him, and I owe about 5k in various bills, due over the next month or so.

Eris:
I probably won't get any because I am unemployed and have never been able to get any sort of government assistance, which is a whole other kettle of fish that I will rant about if given the chance.

The $950 would probably have gone towards food and bills and car registration and other boring things like that. Or I would put it toward the eminent textbooks that need to be bought for uni. I would like to spend it on clothes that are a bit more classy and grown up than what I wear now, because I keep looking in shops or online and wanting to buy pretty things, but I can never afford to.

Hell, who am I kidding, I would go and get a kitty from the RSPCA so I had a kitty at home again. Then I would take photos of it and plaster them all online for everyone to be jealous of. I want a kitty, dammit!

Christophe:
1. Approx. $200-$450 for an extravagant purchase (mixing console, recording interface, geetar, etc, musics).
2. Save the rest for day-to-day expenses.

ViolentDove:
Yeah I will probably blow half on an extravagant purchase (probably a zoom H4 digital recorder for freelance radio-work and also to record some jams at home), and put the other half in the bank.

I have been toying with the idea of using it for a trip to indonesia and malaysia, though, which would be all kinds of awesome.
