The Mann-Conomy Update
SirJuggles:
A little saddened. Even with all the audio and video settings on low, my laptop seems intent on driving this thing into unplayability. I usually give up when I start hitting single-digit framerates. I just bought this laptop less than a year ago, I am highly disappointed :-(

What are the specs? (CPUz and GPUz screenshots are the most helpful.) Does it have Intel graphics? Are you running in DX 8 mode? Have you tried any FPS configs, or did you just change the settings in the Options menu?

Yes, I know it's a laptop that's less than a year old. I'm running TF2 at 20-25 FPS on a 3 year old HP Pavilion dv5000 with a 2.0 ghz single-core Turion and Mobility Radeon Xpress 200m graphics. It took some serious tweaking, but it plays just fine.
Unless it has an Intel video chipset, it should run one way or another.
SirJuggles:
I believe this may be what you are looking for? I'll admit that most of this is gibberish to me. I haven't messed around too much with any settings outside of the in-game options. No Intel graphics that I'm aware of. I'll admit I don't know what DX 8 is, though I'm running the most recent update of DirectX that I know of (I suspect that's what you mean?). There is also a slight chance that the bad performance is coming from the university network I'm on, though that handled BF2 just fine. All in all... well it is yet another technical mystery, which seem to crop up all too often, and if it continues it will not be the end of the world.
