Mini desktops / Tiny computer choices

(1/7) > >>

Rizzo:
I'm looking to downsize my current desktop because it's old and not particularly powerful.
The options I'm currently going for are mini desktops because I don't really need an especially powerful computer, I'd be mostly using it for browsing, watching movies and word processing/coding. Harddrive space isn't a huge issue as I can easily get a terrabyte external.

My current options are the Asus Eee Box, the new Mac mini and the Dell studio hybrid. The Asus is probably too low spec to run decent res videos on my 22" monitor. The mac mini and dell are looking like the best options.
In terms of raw power and value for money, the mac mini looks like the best option. If I were to run boot camp and install XP or vista on it I think I'd be best off.

Any insights or information people can provide me with?

Reed:
Have you considered putting together your own computer? You could probably throw something together for about $500 that would be a lot more powerful than either of those.

Catfish_Man:
We used a mini running XP for the conference room at Jive. Worked great afaik.

In terms of building my own can anyone recommend specific parts? The reason I'd prefer to buy a complete is warranty and the fact that I imagine they would tend to be smaller than custom built PCs.
