Ok, QC Music forums, I have a task for you.

My group of friends at college enjoy a drinking game known as "Power Hour", which is where you take a shot of beer every minute for an hour. This is most fun when done to music, IE a different song every minute.

So the point of this topic is: they put me up to making a 60(or more, but it has to be at least 60) song power hour mix of hip-hop songs, preferably old school hip-hop. However, I do not know much about hip-hop in general, let alone old school hip-hop. So what songs come to mind when you think of old-school or classic hip-hop? Really, any suggestions are welcome, and I'll even post the final mix in the mediafyre thread when I'm done with it! ANYTHING that comes to mind is welcome, and thanks in advance!

I think it was their first album, very smooth shit.

I see that Eric B. & Rakim has already been mentioned, but Lyrics of Fury absolutely needs to be on there as well. It's pretty much old school rap taken to its logical extreme, to the point it where would be self-parody if Rakim wasn't so good at what he does. From the second it kicks in you know you're listening to '80s rap, but in no way should that be taken as an insult.

Yes, in fact Life After Death is one of something like only four rap albums to be certified diamond.

Point is, after the film, shit-tons of people ended up liking his music that didn't before.

Part of the Native Tongues family (tribe called quest, de la soul, jungle brothers) but a little more gangster. One of the best hip-hop acts ever, and criminally overlooked. Definitely need to listen to them.

Hey everyone, so after checking out (and really enjoying) most of you recommendations, I'm still looking for more. I'm really digging a lot, especially the Eric B & Rakim stuff. But I decided to go with any hip-hop, but with a decent part of it being oldschool. So do you have any recommendations for modern hip-hop that you'd like to drink to? Thats a big part too: something you'd like to drink to.
