Great appearances on other people's records

(1/11) > >>

Thrillho:
One of the most annoying things about rap music is that to have any hope of being a completist you need to buy twenty other guys' records to pick up all the collaborations. In the process of just downloading the tunes I wanted (legally) by Notorious BIG from other people's records, I discovered a magnificent tune by he and Michael Jackson called 'This Time Around.' Apparently Michael isn't taking no shit this time. Funny, that.

It's not often that a random collab by someone on a record is the standout, but I realise my favourite song from the Seasick Steve album I own is the one that Nick Cave appeared on.

So - good random collaborations that are unavailable elsewhere, anyone?

Avec:
Even with all the mainstream success, I fucking love anything Jack Johnson touches. In this case, Let It Be Sung is a collaboration between Jack Johnson, Matt Costa, and Zach Gill from A Broke Down Melody, a film about surfers.

JD:
Daft Punk made a cameo in Kanye West's Stronger.  That was great.

Retrospectre:
Actually don't quote me but I think they just loaned him a pair of robot suits and he stuck a couple of dudes in there.

Joseph:
So many jazz albums and groups are full of this.  John Coltrane on Miles Davis' albums, Pharoah Sanders on John Coltrane's albums, Don Cherry on Ornette Coleman's albums, etc.

Current 93's album Black Ships Ate The Sky also has a lot of great guest appearances, by Will Oldham, Antony Hegarty, Shirley Collins and others.

Will Oldham's appears on a few songs on Scout Niblett's last album, This Fool Can Die Now.  The song "Kiss" in particular is a standout.
