Great appearances on other people's records

BeoPuppy:
Linda Perry and Grace Slick on 'Knock Me Out' from the Crow II soundtrack. That song is brilliant and it might just be one of the best things ever.

As much as I hate to be a nitpicking asshole, I'm a Beatles fanatic, so nitpick I will. Clapton played on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Same album though...and apparently, lost in the vaults of Apple, there is a version of "Happiness..." with Jim Morrison singing the "Bang Bang Shoot Shoot" part...but we don't talk about that.
Anyway, one of my favorites is David Bowie's "Fame", with John Lennon doing the steadily descending "Fame" part.

Nuance:
I actually have always loved the guest appearances on rock albums, for whatever reason, they're frequently my favorite part of the album.  Some of my favorites would be Maynard James Keenan on the song "Passenger" off of Deftones' White Pony, James Mercer on about a quarter of Modest Mouse's We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, Jeremy Engick on Mewithoutyou's "O'Porcupine."

I'm not certain what it is, but I almost always enjoy the tracks that are partial collaborations.

Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall

How's that a guest appearance? Trane was a regular member of Monk's quartet at the time!
And he hadn't - or just barely - started to record as a leader.

Same with his appearances on Miles' records mentioned above.

Sorry, it seemed the conversation moved more toward collaborations than guest appearances.

Why has no one mentioned "Under Pressure," yet?  Queen and Bowie?

Also, J Mascis showin' his chops on a Kevin Drew song on Spirit If...
