I Need Glowstick Music

rynne:
It's probably fifteen years old at this point, but the US version of Messiah's 21st Century Jesus is---for my money---the best straight-up techno album *ever*.  Basically, awesome breakbeats + awesome samples from the golden age of rave.

To bad the UK version of 21stCJ has some dodgy mixes and their follow-up album was terrible.

Dimmukane:
Okay...when I said Daft Punk and Justice were disco-y, I meant in the slap bass, lots of samples from 70's-80's bands type of thing.  I guess I'm looking for stuff that does not use a lot of samples and uses synths and drum machines for most of their sound.

65daysofstatic is a song-by-song thing, depending on how post-rocky they get.  'The Distant Glow of Eastern Mechanized Dance Parties' (I know that's not right) is something I'd be able to dance to.

Hot Chip and Junior Boys never seem to get to a point where I'd consider dancing to them.  LCD Soundsystem is a little better at this.  Not all of their songs, but some of them (Daft Punk Is Playing At My House is more of what I'm looking for, although the Soulwax remix is better).  Deastro is a great dude, I love his music, but not really danceable.  I guess another requirement is that there is a lot of stuff going on/loudness?  A lot of what's been recommended so far is a bit more restrained than what I'm looking for.

That Animal Collective song kind of works.  I already have the Soulwax/Holy Fuck angle covered.  What's the difference between Fabric and Fabriclive?  I was under the impression that Fabriclive was all dubstep.

Also, the Health remix album is kind of working better than Crystal Castles, because it's got less screaming.

Maybe this is a better guide?  At least in terms of the kind of sounds used.  Stuff where the melody is modulated and faded and messed with.

KvP:
I would call Daft Punk disco of a sort. I'm not really enamoured of the brand of cheese that they've spawned (MSTRKRFT, Justice etc.)

Anyway, Fabric is a good place to start. The nice thing about compilation albums / DJ mixes is that every track is a potential doorway to more music of its kind. Look for a song you like, and look up the artist. You might get lucky and find something you really like.

Johnny C:
Dude just find some classic italo comps.

they're not really glowstick music as much as they are cocaine music but whatever

E. Spaceman:
OK, this I guess is sort of part of my job.

To start I will just post a ton of stuff of several different styles, of you like any tell me and we'll narrow it down further.

This is Tiga, he is a dude from Montreal

This is Hercules and Love Affair. They are a thing from New York, they are mostly known for making new disco but they often have other sounds, like the second song which is a very Chicago House track.

Ratatat are also from NY. They are a dude who is a pretty major session guitar player from mainstream acts and a dude who plays bass and laptop. I guess a way of describing them would be like wailing cockrock guitars BS hiphop.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc7ND4Qrd3I  This is a DJ mehdi song with them on it, it is more hip hoppish.

Crookers, they make some of my favourite dirty sounding electronic musics. They are prime glowstick music. Specially Love to Edit, the second track.

Digitalism are also from germany, they are fans of that overcompressed synth that mstrkrft uses extensively

Mantronix are old school electro. They still sound awesome though some might say a bit dated

Simian Mobile Disco, SMD used to be a rock band and then broke up but one of their songs had been remixed by Justice and it became a huge hit and in the meantime two of the band members formed an electronic project which is based on simple but often heavily distorted synth and repetition.

John mentions italo as coke music but in my mind they are always associated with qualuudes or some other sedative. See also: slow motion disco
