Guys, Tell Me I'm Pretty
Dazed:
I don't know you at all, but my impression from your posts is that you're just sort of like the internet in general; you're pretty cool and funny sometimes, and just kind of needlessly dickish and douche-y others. I guess I think you're kind of okay? I doubt my opinion matters to you, but that's my two cents.
A Shoggoth on the Roof:
man fuck your two cents, this is the internet. Tits or GTFO.
nah, it's cool. everyone has an opinion on the internet
I still want those pictures

--- Quote from: ledhendrix on 26 Apr 2009, 11:20 ---I'm trying to say that it's pretty unfair how, a poster who has been around before/people know, gets away with making up silly threads that would otherwise be left alone or turn into a giant post with people going it was a new poster. I mean he posted the "I'm listening to Avril Lavrigne" and the "I'm listening to Kate Perry" threads. If someone who just had one post and no one knew came along and did that they would probably just be told to shut the fuck up and post it in the "What am I listening to right now" thread.
I've not really got any beef with AG. More my problem is with the way that people will happily jump on a thread started by a new poster and tell him to shut the hell up and lurk more, whilst a ridiculous thread like this, with a main point that could have easily been made in the blog thread (It's there for a reason) gets respected members of the forums posting in it and not telling AG to move it into the blog thread.

Think about it like this: you and a bunch of friends are standing around chatting. Someone you know comes up and says "oh hey guys, I'm not feeling too good, can you cheer me up?" That would be ok. If someone you didn't know did the same thing you would tell them to go away. (Ok, so some people would maybe humour the person, but I'd think the majority wouldn't).
Same thing here. Kieffer's been around for a good while and has people here who he considers friends. He is talking to those people in these threads. If you're not one of those people then feel free to ignore them. The reason we tell noobs with 5 posts who try to start stuff like this to lurk moar or go talk in the blog thread is so that we get to know them well enough so they are a part of the wider community or at least some subset of it.
I really don't understand why people don't get this. It's not that "people who have been here longer get away with more" it is that people who have been here longer probably understand how the board works/should work, will probably have more people around who actually care about what they want to say and usually have a stronger link to the underlying community of the board than say, Johnny Newguy with 2 posts starting a thread about how his girlfriend doesn't like Coldplay and what should he do about it, because seriously, fuck that guy.

Another thing I want to bring up, with special reference to the newer people on the boards: If you see a thread like this where it is obviously someone who's been around for a while and a bunch of other people who have obviously been around for a while are debating something about how the board is or whatever you should probably keep out of it. It's kind of like walking into someone's house where an argument is happening and trying to butt in without knowing anything about the situation. Your enthusiasm is appreciated, but you're not going to help things much.
Professor Snuggles:
I mean, honestly, if he's complaining that his girlfriend doesn't like coldplay, he has terrible taste anyway and his girlfriend should probably dump him to bone me instead.
