Thomas Edison:
I went to Tennesee once.

It's still alright, I guess.

Also, WHFS is/was indeed a great radio station.

HFS went Spanish Language a couple of years ago.  Like, at lunchtime one day.

Seriously.

I moved away from the D.C. Area for about ten years (returning in 2001) and though it was around (with a much bigger broadcast area! I used to know the exact intersection in Northern Virginia when the radio in my ancient Toyota would pick it up) it wasn't as good as it was in the late 80s when it really was underground radio.

But yeah, one morning everything was cool with HFS, and then all of a sudden they started playing shit in Spanish.  Boom!  Total reformat in the space of two minutes.   Happened to the local 'alternative' station where I'm living now too (not that it was really all that alternative.)   One day they came on and said "Next week, this is going to be an 'urban' station.  We feel it will better serve the market."

As a totally unrelated side note, Dave Smalley works for the parent company of our local radio, and all we have is Country, Classic Rock, and Urban in our local market.   You'd think we'd be able to get something a little better, right?   Dave Smalley for crying out loud!
