Long ago - but the point was made by H G Wells in The Time Machine (the only film my father ever took me to see), and any number of other science-fiction writers (I recall one short story in which a time tourist trod on a butterfly and returned to a different world, but can't remember who wrote it).

That's a short story called A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury. It's one of my favorites.
