They should have made this a movie instead.

Heck yeah, that’d be awesome.

I felt like RockNRolla was self-cannibalism of Lock, Stock… and Snatch. Terrifying criminal overlord is tries to obtain MacGuffin (guns/diamond/painting) that's somehow fallen into the hands of small-time crooks who owe a debt to said overlord. Add a half-dozen quirked-out extra players and a labyrinthine plot that results in criminal overlord being killed by his own circumstantially botched plans, leaving the protagonist small-time crooks in the clear. Having seen Ritchie's earlier films, I pretty much knew how RockNRolla would end during its opening five minutes.
Obviously he can't do that here, but I'm kinda worried because every time he's tried a different plot the results haven't been pretty.

My thoughts exactly!
As far as Guy Ritchie goes in general, he's a pretty weak director. Sure Snatch and Lock Stock were clever and stylish. I think those movies are a lot of fun and own them both and enjoy them, especially the latter. That being said, they're gimicky and full of one dimensional characters (even though some are pretty enjoyable). Swept Away...well lets not even mention that travesty (not that Wertmuller's is all that good either). I didn't see Revolver but I did see RocknRolla and was really disappointed. It was a tired and uninteresting rehash of his earlier gangster flicks largely devoid of the charm and occasional interesting character and even failing at the crazy complicated 'oh shit all these connected yet separate-for-most-of-the-movie groups of quirky characters are all converging at the end' thing. In other words, not counting the one I haven't seen, Ritchie has made two decent/fun if not all that great movies and one god awful one and one simply weak and boring one. An OK record but not a great one.
The trailer for this Holmes movie does not inspire confidence. Downey Jr. seems to be channeling Johnny Depp here but not in a good way. I can't quite make out what this movie will be like except that it will be fairly "action packed" and have slow motion fist fights recycled from Snatch and really lame sexual humor (see the final moment of the trailer) which will surely be eye-rollingly bad if that clip is any indication. Downey Jr. is a good actor but Ritchie is not so great at directing actors necessarily so...well needless to say I don't have high hopes. Yes, I'll probably see this movie but I'll be going into it with low expectations. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Oh, I totally agree with this sentiment.

I'm not really a fan of snark. Giving it a miss.
