Polvo's In Prism
« on: 03 Jun 2009, 13:43 »

Quote from: band's myspace, 25/02/2009
Hi, guys, Dave here. I just wanted to mention that Polvo is entering the studio in mid-March to record our 1st album in 12 years. We are recording with Brian Paulson at Echo Mountain in beautiful downtown Asheville, North Carolina. More details are forthcoming, except to say that we are really excited to finally get into the studio. Thanks for the continued support. We'll be in touch.

Quote from: Merge Records
n September 8th, Merge Records will release In Prism, the first studio album from Polvo since 1997’s Shapes. In Prism was recorded at Echo Mountain in Asheville, North Carolina with Brian Paulson in March of ‘09, with additional recording in Carrboro in May of ‘09.

Polvo formed in 1990 in Chapel Hill, NC. Their lineup consisted of vocalists/guitarists Ash Bowie and Dave Brylawski, bassist Steve Popson, and drummer Eddie Watkins.  The band released 2 full-length albums and 2 EPs on Merge Records, and 2 full-length albums for Touch and Go before disbanding in 1997. Polvo, joined by drummer Brian Quast (Cherry Valence), reformed in 2008 when asked to perform at ATP by Explosions in the Sky. Several festival shows followed, and new songs emerged.

The band has tour dates planned in June and July including XX Merge, and the Seaport Music Festival with Obits on July 31st. More tour dates to come this fall!

In Prism track listing:
1. Right the Relation
2. D.C. Trails
3. Beggar’s Bowl
4. City Birds
5. Lucia
6. Dream residue/Work
7. The Pedlar
8. A Thousand Waves

Okay, this could be awesome or complete bollocks. Brylawski and Popson's work as Black Taj has been pretty solid these past couple of years but I really think the ball's in Bowie's court now.

I like how no one (other than Tom) has been able to come up with words to describe their excitement! It makes me feel less dumb for not being able to come up with words other than WOOOOOO

OOOOOO.

I've been waiting for this ever since I talked to Ash Bowie (!!!!!!!!!!) at Wicker Park Fest in Chicago last summer.  But yeah, I definitely fear that it could completely suck since Brylawski and Bowie probably still don't like each other.

I remember I asked Bowie why they changed the structure of Lazy Comet, and he said he liked the original version better but that "he" (Brylawski) wanted to play it the new way.

Man, this means a tour. I like the idea of a tour. Young guy like me would never have the chance to see these folks otherwise, seeing as how they were performing prominently before I was in college.

Ok, just listened to another song (here) called Beggar's Bowl. Ok, I kinda have to rescind my first comment, because this shit just sounds way too slick and non-lo-fi. Kinda unsettling and not in the good way. Sounds way too fucking much like Black Taj to me.

I'm pretty sure the album is gonna disappoint, but the live show will more than make up for it. Somebody try to get a good live recording of the songs and we'll all listen to that instead.

Recording practices have changed, Chris and they're getting a lot more space for sound.

I can definitely hear Black Taj but this song may be Brylawski's baby. Then again Taj is only really Polvo's collective guitar awesome with more space.
