True... Although Angels Of Oblivion is pretty good... It's like just an entire cd of ballands a la Scream Of The Butterfly and that's awesome in my book :)

Cynic is my first recommendation. Prog/jazz/fusion/death metal greatness. I can't wait for the day they have over an hour of recorded material.
Opeth is my second. Since you like death metal as well as melodic metal, this should be right up your alley. Start with Blackwater Park.
Amorphis. Start with Eclipse and be amazed.
That's all I really have, actually. I'm not too too into the modern metal scene, and what I do listen to always has those smatterings of prog in it. The rest of it is old-school metal. Maiden/Sabbath/Zepp/Purple/Old Metallica/Ozzy

I think you mean Agents... and yes... that CD gets more play right now that my acid bath does... (well, I havent had it as long!)

That's a sad fact tbh.... The metal scene is getting better just like wine. One have to just search properly.

Yeah, I see that, its just that what metal I do listen to has to be pretty in-fucking-credible to get my full attention, and I haven't found much of that in modern metal.
