I wonder if Pennelope's previous boy problems also came from jumping in without looking. She's so level-headed about other things, though.

Wil said before he left that he realized he wasn't the man she deserved (can't find the comic (edit: it's 1310), so that isn't the exact wording)
What if that insight sinks in and he figures out that a real relationship will require him to run a real life?
That would be a big change, but Jeph does let his characters grow and develop.
