--- Quote from: Hat on 09 Jul 2009, 14:22 ---If someone could explain what is ungrammatical about "imagine greater" that would be lovely because it seems fine to me.
--- End quote ---
If "imagine" is a verb, then it would be modified by an adverb. "Greater" is not an adverb; it is an adjective. "Imagine more greatly" would be correct. If someone has a better imagination than you, you might say that they can "imagine more greatly" than you, but it is not correct to say that they can "imagine greater" than you.
--- End quote ---
I guess I have an unconscious block against the ugliness that is 'more greatly' even existing which I feel is legit
Ozymandias:
"Imagine Greater" is not ugly in your mind because it implies a noun afterward, like "Imagine Greater Things" or "Imagine Greater People", which I think is the intended point of the motto.
