So about Faye and Marten

I know this has been discussed before, but I'm not the one to Bump Super old threads. -- Has they're been any plans about a romance between Marten and Faye, since Strips #500 - #510?

Before Marten and Dora hooked up, I was one of the people who just wanted him and Faye to hook up because it was taking too long, but now I think that whole possibility is basically over. Like, unless he and Dora split up or something, Fay/Marten isn't going to happen.

Faye has mentioned still having feelings for him, but that those may be changing away from being romantic. Marten seems happy being monogamous with Dora, and I don't remember any hints to the contrary over the time span you asked about.

After all the time they've spent together?  And with her problems?  It would be like an iceberg romancing the Hindenburg.

I still hold out hope for Marten and Faye and I was never a big fan of Marten and Dora being with each other to begin with.

Faye has been working on her problems, though it seems like she's been stuck for a while now.

It's definitely not the right time for it. Right now Faye has way too much to deal with and Dora and Marten are together.  I could see it happening in the future, if QC lasts that long.  There would be a lot of things that would have to happen for that to work and right now it really doesn't seem like that's going to happen.

HAHA!  best analogy I have ever heard.

Honestly when I was reading it, I was routing for Dora the whole time.  I honestly dont see anything going wrong with these two that would allow an opening for Faye.  Unless Marten pulls a Sven but that doesnt seem like Marten's style.

I'd rather Faye leave them be and hook up with someone else.

Everyone will get together and fuck like there's no tomorrow. Then, a meteor will strike and everyone will die.

In a few hundred years, single-celled organisms will thrive, along with their AnthroPhages. Then, we'll repeat the comic, but instead of having to draw characters Jeph will only have to draw large circles with nuclei and dot-like things.

I am in complete agreement. It kind of doesn't help that they're a completely bland couple. I still think Marten and Faye will ultimately be down for each other when everything else falls out and they look so much cuter.

I wouldn't call it bland, as much as it's normal. I mean, they hang out together, they perform intercourse, they show affection in public. If you're meaning they're bland, in that they don't go out on dates, that's probably due to Jeph not wanting to draw the same characters over and over and over again. He has shown a certain disliking to drawing the same characters over and over and over again on a mini-arc.

But, to Faye and Marten, that would be hundreds, if not thousands of strips in the future. He and Dora seem quite pleased to be with each other. Yes, they have their disagreements, but what couple doesn't?

I mean, they do like each other, but there's no real conflict, challenge, or development between the two and the only thing they really have in common is their music. Granted, Jeph hasn't put a lot of focus on the two (actually, I'm not really sure where he's going at this point), but from what I've seen of their general mannerisms, Marten is still a wishy-washy Indie dork while Dora is still a flirtatious sweetheart. It's kind of a neutral partnership aside from the fact that they fuck every now and then.

I just feel that Marten needs more of a challenge since he's too closely oriented to his comfort zone to change or progress, and I think Faye could be the spice he needs.

Marten and Faye getting together would be interesting. Not that I see it happening.

Marten and Dora dont share the same taste in music... Where did that come from... In deed, as i recall Dora once said the music was one area she felt she would never be able to 'share' with Marten.

Basicaly i dont get why some are suggesting the two characters are too 'same-y' for the relationship to last. Heck, its about as good as a relationship can get so far as i can tell. I wouldn't want to be changing it any time soon (or at all). In fact, only the whole slow pasage of time in-comic is keeping from wondering WHY it isnt progressing (remember, in comic time they've only been together for, what, a couple of months?).

Basicaly I dont see a Marten/Faye hook-up happening anytime soon, or at all really, and i wouldnt really want to either.

they perform intercourse
\

XD how clinical.

but to get to the subject,
i was holding it out for faye and marten for a good minute, but in the back of my mind i was rooting for dora. and once faye explained how she felt to marten, i KNEW it was coming eventually. it was a little sooner than i expected, but i am fairly satisfied with their relationship.

i mean, not every webcomic is anders loves maria (lots of romance-drama)
it is fairly nice to see a functional couple.

Maybe IRL or some reality TV show. It doesn't emit the same vibe in a comic, especially one with a plotline that has no central focus.

Huh, that rings a bell. But I do recall the two of them going to concerts and whatnot, so it could just be their strong affinity with music.

Either way, I'm not a big fan of Marten and Dora.

I dont recall them even going to many concerts together. But yeah, i guess you could say they share taste in music if you think of it as "They both have an interest is some vague, generalised form of music".

They share some of the same taste in music, but not a lot. This was lamented by Marten to Steve and Ellen in #578. In #1395 Dora worried that she and Marten would never be able to connect on a musical level. But I think that had less to do with taste and more to do with the fact that Marten knows a lot about theory and about how to play music, while Dora's only a music fan.
