Describe your favorite indie band as "x meets y."
Eddie 88:
I'm always curious to see if other people see bands the same way I do, and you know you are too (admit it), so let's all describe our favorite indie bands as "x band meets y band" or whatever. I'll start us off.
Deerhoof: Imagine if Sonic Youth and Shonen Knife had a one-night-stand in Western Mass. Deerhoof is the resultant child-out-of-wedlock.
Thrillho:
It's funny you should mention indie, seeing as that's all any of us ever listen to.
Joseph:
He's not my favourite musician, or even one I particularly like, but I guess Rufus Wainwright sounds like what would happen if Louis Wainwright III met Kate McGarrigle.
MadassAlex:
Indie doesn't even mean anything anymore.
It should mean "independent", but most people seem to use it to refer to a kind of diatonic rock that draws its heavier aspects from grunge and lighter aspects from acoustic balladry.
I guess if you take the term literally, my favourite "indie" band is Animals As Leaders, which is kind of Metroid meets Guitar Sorcery In General with powerful progressive leanings.
TheFuriousWombat:
Oh god no, can there please not be a discussion about what 'indie' means? Please??
