--- Quote from: TheFuriousWombat on 04 Sep 2009, 07:34 ---I really hope Godspeed and Eluvium make it past this round and beyond. Eluvium probably won't get far but c'mon, Godspeed at least has to have a small chance of getting near the end, even if it won't win (I'll throw my vote behind You Forgot it in People or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot or possibly Funeral(?) for that although I'm sure I'll be surprised).

I think you can rest easy about GY!BE, at least for this round. Nachtmystium have little to no chance which is a bit of a shame really, they could have been a surprise runner with different opposition. Personally I'd like to see Eluvium go out purely because that would mean the one hip-hop album that got into the first round didn't go out immediately, but I suspect this might be a vain hope.

You're damn right you should have!
There are a few really interesting matches here. With Botch versus Dead Meadow you've got the hippies versus the punks, a cloud of bong smoke against a clenched fist, Dead Meadow's harkening back to psychedelia and '70s rock throwing down against Botch's thoroughly contemporary technical assault that gives few nods to anything before Kiss It Goodbye (except for at the end). We Are The Romans did very well in nominations but it was the only Botch album eligible, votes for Dead Meadow were split between several releases. Beulah versus The Strokes could be a good draw for Beulah since The Strokes might be a band with a lot of fans but they're also a band with a lot of haters, and Beulah could do well from people with minimal to no knowledge of them voting against The Strokes (I know I did, they sounded alright from a cursory listen and that was good enough). I'm also interested in how Lightning Bolt and Boris will do, I can imagine there are a lot of people like me who didn't place them in their nominations but like those records a hell of a lot more than most other albums in the running.
TheFuriousWombat:
I don't think Lightning Bolt stands a chance of getting past even this round, to be honest. Not only is Transatlantacism DcfC's best album with room to spare, it's also just a really good album without any context. Lightning Bolt is definitely cool, I'm a fan, but that's not at all an album that a lot of people would be into. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see DcfC win that one by a fairly large margin.
As for Sigur Ros vs. Boris, Boris will probably win. I personally think the SR album is much, much better but a) a lot of people on this board like Boris and b) a lot of people hate on SR on principal (a la In the Aeroplane Over the Sea). Not just here, mind you, but in general. As for Boris v. Mastodon, I think Boris will win that one too. I don't really anticipate Boris going much past round two unless it's matched up against something particularly not-good that managed to slip through the cracks of round one but I find that unlikely but I'm expecting both albums to make it past this round.

I think you're probably right about neither making it past the second round, although I'm still willing to pin some hopes on LB doing a little giant killing.
