I rather like this storyline. It's handling their platonic relationship in a realistic, mature fashion; giving some of the fans what they want without actually pandering to them.
Granted, it started with a fart joke...

It's actually pretty upsetting that some people may still decide to ship these two after this.
Just because they don't fit into the hetero-normative coming-of-age formula doesn't mean they're secretly in love! Relationships aren't always the answer to everyone's problems. In fact, they often exacerbate things!
