I was under the impression that heated fields could stop ground from freezing, but would not stop snow from accumulating.

If it keeps the ground warm enough to not freeze, one would think it might melt a bit of the snow, too.

The snow was a fine, wet snow which didn't stick. And anyone who's lived here long enough could tell you that if the ground is still warm, the snow won't stick.
The wetness tore up the field, though. They showed plenty of shots of players tearing grass and mud clumps off their helmets.

That happened in New England once. Fieldturf sort of solved that issue.
