It appears that my favorite sport is heading for the nuclear option.
The NHLPA is planning on doing a "disclaimer of interest" - a method of essentially removing the union from bargaining on behalf of the players, in an effort to sue the NHL for unfair labor practices. The effect of a disclaimer is essentially the same as that of decertification - except that the NHLPA would continue to exist as a labor organization, but would simply no longer represent the players of the National Hockey League in CBA negotiations.
The NHL, of course, has preemptively sued the NHLPA before the NLRB for using this tactic as a bargaining tool, charging that the PA is essentially "not bargaining in good faith" by using it.
What they probably don't want the NLRB to know is that the league is refusing to budge on three issues, while they have essentially come to an agreement with the PA on almost every other issue.
Meanwhile, I'm planning on attending a hockey game tonight featuring two of my first cousins once removed.

It does sound like this season in the NHL vs. NHLPA match up only the lawyers will make any money.
Why am I not surprised?

Is anybody watching the World Juniors? This is the first hockey I've watched in a couple years now. Man, I've missed this.
