Are you ready for little pre-teens to invade your Grizzly Bear Concert?

i thought tweens were already at grizzly bear concerts.

In any case, this might bring more attention to bands that we like and hopefully they will be able to produce more material!

Dreading a band becoming popular is dead since July 8, 2002.

It's not really dreading a band becoming popular, but more so having the band you like playing behind really bad acting.

Actually, Sea Wolf are on the Zombieland soundtrack too so does this mean that their gigs will be full of zombies munching on pre-teens' brains? Because i would actually be OK with this.

And we all know there is nothing worse than that.

My friend loves Twilight, and by the transitive property now also loves Muse. Came into lecture one day listening to them, all like "LISTEN TO THIS AWESOME BAND OMG" and I was all like "shit I have not listened to Muse since high school"

I remember I was trying to get my sister into muse and well it failed.

Then she read the twilight book and became obsessed, and then one day asked me "Have you ever heard of Muse?"

I was like "YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I was only trying to get you to listen to them two months ago!"
She's like "Nope, I don't think so. I got this from Stephanie Meyer. I love that band."
I was kinda pissed. That was in 2006 however. Bigger and better things now.

I've decided to ignore those soundtracks as much as possible. I don't want to taint my opinion of an artist just because they decided to make a living by getting money for being in a bad movie's soundtrack

Guys the solution is not to listen to music so bland it could soundtrack a Twilight film in the first place.

Simple!

That's why I listen exclusively to John Cage's aleatoric music.  It's not as accessible as his prepared piano music, nor 4:33 and it's actually good stuff.  That and Penderecki.

Oh hey! Ever heard of that band? They are Indie and from Montreal. The Arcade Fire, you know? I'm sure you don't know them. Go listen to them. Here's a link. Don't thank me.

OH GOD!  Don't get me started on fellating Messiaen.  Though, I think he's a little bit more accessible and other people might actually like him upon listening to him.  Actually, that's pretty awesome.  If the next Twilight movie soundtrack features Messiaen, I will take back every cynical thing I've ever said in my entire life.

Boulez himself has said that some of the stuff he recorded was basically stupid and useless (like Structures).  Plus, like Bernstein, I like him more as a conductor than as the fantastic composer that he is.

it's not in the soundtrack, just the trailer. And most people are too lazy to figure out what the trailer's music is. I think you're safe
however Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeah's fame wrote the soundtrack to it. So they may pull it with her stuff

I kind of agree. Boulez is the best Debussy conductor, just like Bernstein was arguably the best for Mahler's symphonies. But... I don't know, Boulez's music just sounds very interesting to me; there's a lot going on. You can kind of hear the Debussy influence in his music too (at least I can).

How the hell we went from Twilight to contemporary and modern classical I have no clue.

I think that's the best thing.  Also, James MacMillan.

I love some of Bernstein's concert music as well as his conducting.  Some of it is really silly, but some of it is awesome.  I actually got to see an orchestra perform his third symphony, and it is still one of my top five concert experiences ever.  Boulez never really had the silly part, but he's a fantastic conductor.  I'd actually say most modern concert music, if it's orchestral, Boulez should conduct.  Well, unless it's American, because there's a different aesthetic to a lot of American contemporary music.  For American music I'd go with MTT.

It is a pretty off coincidence that I happened to browse across this thread again whilst listening to Giacinto Scelsi, given the developments.

You have to appreciate a forum where a discussion of a Twilight soundtrack leads to a discussion of modern concert music.

I actually heard both from professors when I was in school.  Predominantly, I actually heard the concert music one.
