Very cool, I'll send a PM because I have a friend or two who might be interested.

Are there any cool acts from Portugal you'd like to share in the meantime? It's always fun hearing new stuff and getting to understand what the local scene is like.  :-)

Woo thanks!

Well, stuff from Portugal, off the top of my head.

I guess right now it's all about Buraka Som Sistema, here and internationally. They're getting bigger and bigger. They even have a song featuring M.I.A. - Sound of Kuduro, you can listen to it on their Myspace.

If you're into punk/hardcore there's Adorno, who have great songs and are great kids.

This one is also a friend of mine. It's Folk and it's oh so Portuguese. You should give it a listen even if you don't get a word of what he's saying.

There are also these dudes from the same label. Their songs sound like The Strokes and The White Stripes smashed into each other; I'm really not a fan, but a lot of people here seem to like them so I thought I'd mention them. They also sing in Portuguese.

And, Last but not least, I have to mention my best friend. Her name is Leonor but she goes by the name Can't Sing For Shit. Don't let the name fool you though, she really can sing. Take a listen if you're into lo-fi folk punk and you'll love it for sure.

I'll come back with more!

Adorno are so good. What's the next step after Orchid? Put some Frankfurt School in the damn band name. Classy.

I'm also enjoying Buraka Som Sistema, never come across them before. Thanks for the link.

I can see why they're getting attention, but not quite my cup of tea.

That's some good stuff. Not my usual style, but I still like it.

I like him, pretty inventive on the melodies, though I'm sure I'm missing a lot not knowing what the lyrics mean.

This is probably closest to what I usually listen to. A nice sound overall.

Very pretty voice. Her style fits that lo-fi thing, but it would be interesting to see her on a full recording.

Thanks for sharing.  :-)

Hah I know right? And they are such cool guys and are AMAZING live.

Most welcome. Buraka's fun.

If you liked them, there are a bunch of other guys on their label that you may also like! Like these two:

http://www.myspace.com/guillul

They all sing in Portuguese though. Which is kind of a shame, because most of their lyrics are really fun and witty and a major part of the songs. Well, I can translate them for you if you wish!

Glad you liked it! I am a very proud bff, haha.

Thanks for these, Meg. I am thoroughly enjoying the time I am spending listening to Adorno.

If I thought myself a musician of any repute, I would happily be interviewed by you. Alas, most of what I do musically involves assembling noises made from striking small things on large things into some sort of recognizable pattern. Lately, that means getting paid one hundred dollars to play a back beat for three hours at a rap battle.

I do have a couple friends who are professional musicians, however, and I will try to send them your way.

Thanks again for the links  :-D
