Lonesome Wyatt is the vocals/guitarist for Those Poor Bastards, who have a similar but less eerie sound.
This was a solo project before TPB.

Also I'm listening to the new Salome album right now, Terminal, and that is some genuinely fantastic stuff. Sludgey doom with occasional forays into proper old-school riffage. Kat, the singer is off the fucking hook. Full-on, throat-tearing all the time.

Actually, come to think of it, most of my favourite metal records this year have involved batshit crazy female front ladies (Ludicra's The Tenant and Howl's Full of Hell, as well as Terminal).
