Keith Moon was an amazing drummer. John Entwistle was an amazing bassist. It's not often that the rhythm section in a band are the most notable musicians.

just for anecdote's sake, i know a ton of drummers, more or less all of them broadly in the "rock" sense, and none of them have ever said anything about being bored.

some people, they just like to bang on things.  i know several good guitar players who switched to drums, even.

I can't figure out where this assertion is coming from, but it certainly isn't any creative process I'm familiar with. In my experience, any drummer with decent skill who's bored out of his mind playing rock music isn't actually a drummer of decent skill.

When I say this, I mean there are things that are simply worse than the arctic monkeys no matter your tastes.

I don't actually listen to them at all though.
