I have exactly one Bruce Springsteen album - The Ghost Of Tom Joad. It's understated, stripped-back and affecting - all things I don't generally associate with ol' Brucie Bonus, although I'm aware he has a couple of other quieter albums like Nebraska.

But I want to get into him properly, find his 'true' sound. Where shall I start? At the beginning with Born To Run?

And I'm not getting Born In The USA before anyone suggests it...

Man, I woke up this morning and listened to the Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle. That's one of his best, but get it after Born to Run, which is undeniably the best. Then Nebraska's great, and I'll just stop there before I further reveal the extent of my Springsteen obsession. It's not healthy, it really isn't.

Though Born In The USA can be a bit too bombastic, it does have several good tracks, including the title track and the brilliant I'm On Fire.

Greetings From Asbury Park is probably the most solid album in my opinion.  Nebraska is definitely worth a few listens, though (like, more than a few).

I've already tried Neil Young. I can't stand the guy's voice. I have a live album that I reviewed a couple of years ago, him and Crazy Horse playing I think the Filmore East in 1970, which I very much like - that aside I don't dig the guy.

I was literally not joking or overstating when I said what I said about Born in the USA. There is not a weak track on the fucking thing and I guess I could understand why you wouldn't like the production but the songwriting is immaculate and easily the equal of anything else he's done.

I don't know how I'd feel about having Neil Young as my boss. Like, I'd have an error in my timesheet he'd have to sign off on, and on the form instead of his signature he'd have written the lyrics to a 9-minute song about the effects of war on families, or some shit.

It'd be hassle, is what I'm saying.

As for Springsteen, he definitely had that All-American blue collar poet thing down. I have the slipcover to Born in the USA framed on my wall. What an ass.

I've had my mother's copy of Nebraska in my car's CD player since Black Friday. I should probably remedy that, but I really don't want to.

My two favorite are Nebraska and Born in the USA, Born to run is also pretty good, but not as good as Born in the USA. Devils and dust is pretty good as well, but it isn't quite as good as Nebraska. Those two albums pretty much are the best of his two styles.

Liking Springsteen is one of those things that not nearly enough people under 40 do. He's so good at being Bruce Springsteen.

Neil Young is the best though, and you should keep listening to him until you start to like his voice.
