Video game remakes are good.

Honestly there are very few games where I would rather play the original over the remake. Mega Man X vs. Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X comes to mind, but MMMHX is a pretty good game that just suffers from some crippling slowdown and such where the original didn't even have any. It was too graphically ambitious for its platform and MMX is a fantastic game in its own right with gameplay that actually still feels fairly modern.

What did they do to improve FireRed and LeafGreen?

They're remakes of Red and Blue.

JD:
I know that. How are they better than the originals?

JD:
Also I still have the remake of Ocarina of Time on Gamecube.  It's pretty good.
