help needed with cd ripping...
spoon_of_grimbo:
i've just gotten a new laptop (Toshiba laptop with windows 7 home premium), and i seem to be having a problem ripping certain cds, or indeed playing them. the following cds, when put in the drive play a heavily distorted, almost white-noise covered version of what SHOULD be on there:
The Replacements - Sorry Ma...
Funeral for a Friend - Tales Don't Tell Themselves
Greenday - Nimrod
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
A - Teen Dance Ordinance
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
it's not a software issue, as it does the same on windows media player, realplayer, and several other cd-ripping programs i've downloaded and tried. i'm guessing, since they're all cds whose release has been somehow affiliated with Warner records, that it's some sort of copy protection issue. i should point out that they all worked fine on my old laptop.
im not the most competent person ever at playing around with settings etc. but if anyone knows any safe way to mess with the settings on my cd drive to sort out this problem, i'd greatly appreciate any help, please!
thanks.
Melodic:
What are the "several other" programs you tried? Because, as a general rule, you should avoid WMP and RealPlayer like the plague.
spoon_of_grimbo:
just a few generic "CD ripper" programs that i downloaded and installed. it can't be the actual playing software that's the problem though, as the cds work fine on media player on my old laptop.
KvP:
Sounds like a hardware issue.
spoon_of_grimbo:
yeah, this is what i'm thinking. it's just the fact that it's only certain CDs, all of which are from the same record company, that's rather strange. i mean, it's not a huge issue, because i can still rip the offending cds on my old laptop and transfer the files, but it's still a bit of a pain and something i'd like to sort out.
