This comic is awesome because I actually work at a Goodwill. Faye's description is pretty accurate, to be honest. We judge you.

Hooray for Martin. However, I'm afraid it would swiftly change from 'Follow the Yellow Brick Road' to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road *. 'Cause the bitch would be back. Don't know about sober, though.

Now I can't shed the image of Hanners as cyborg queen, and the population of the solar system with spooky red eye-implants...

We are the Hannelore. We will add your biological and technological cleanliness to our own. Your culture will sanitise to service us. Resistance is futile.
Actually, I think it should be: Resistance is futile. We are the Hannelore. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. But first, you must clean yourselves. Thoroughly. We will not tolerate the unsanitary. Don't make us do it ourselves. You wouldn't like it. Resistance is futile, and germs are gross.

*(Well, Caribou, actually, but that's not nearly as much fun a segway.)

Move it on Australia Day. For those who are from Australia (and those who are not if you still like to move it)
Me, my friends, odd family members, and random pets celebrated Australia Day with a huge Chinese feed. Which is what it's all about really.

"We are one, though we are many,
And from all the lands on Earth we come.
We share a dream, and sing with one voice,
I am, you are, we are Australian"

*sniffle* *wipes away tears* Ahem...
Great comic. Are references to the Wizard Of Oz more or less obscure than to the Singularity? I confess that Faye's gothbox remark made me chuckle, reminding me of this strip. Does that make me a bad person? Or just Australian?

Are you kidding?

American English is practically built on the Wizard of Oz.

If you know what to look for, the Wizard of Oz is everywhere.

In ten-thousand years, the only thing that will be remembered of American Pop Culture will be the Wizard of Oz.

It's the American Iliad.

It's the American Odyssey.
Fixed that. I suspect the American pop Iliad, if there is such a thing, lies in the various superhero tales, mostly Golden Age stuff. I'm sure Superman will last as long as Baum's tales.

I'm pretty sure the singularity did hit, we just haven't noticed yet.

After all, we're all pretty well attached to our computers.  Hell, I teach classes online...

The internet is the singularity, growing, evolving, absorbing us all - a viral cloud of artificial intelligence stupidity that makes our entire lifestyle incomprehensible to those who came before.  There are very few of us who can even recall what life was like 30, 40 years ago before it all happened...

I still blame Pong.

Of course you do.

You can't blame all this on a simple game that did nothing worse than bore us to tears after about, oh, five, six hundred hours of play.

ponders that

Okay, maybe you can.

I'm sure Superman will last as long as Baum's tales.
Batman probably will as well - as will Captain America and Spiderman from the Marvel properties, all of those boys are definitely mythic enough to last.
Possibly, and others as well, but, like him or hate him, Superman seems, culturally, to have a bigger foothold than any of the others, and I'm not sure that it's just because he's been around longer.

Good thing it wasn't her mom, or worse, Faye!

I think it was pretty clear from her query that she still likes what she sees. And why would Faye be bad?

So you just let New Orleans drown ?!?!?!

As the trigger for this, I must note that I don't give a damn about American football. I'll watch the Superbowl solely for the commercials. I also read Playboys for the articles (like that Bill Gates report I did in the seventh grade).

Hanners, one of these days you really just have to bite the bullet/grit your teeth, down them suppression pills you took before, and then get yourself royally laid. Twice. You can deal with the icky fluids, messy sheets, strewn clothing, and touching hot flesh in the morning. Trust me, sex solves a lot of problems.

Well, at least in erotic literature/fiction it always does...

Oh the number of times I have heard people (mostly men) say that the solution to all life's problems is a good lay.
In the case of Hanners I think she may start listening to the voices in her head and KILL EVERYONE. Then when there is no one left, raid a supermarket for cleaning supplies. Unfortunately this is not like the worry hat; everyone would still be dead afterwards.

Part of your issue may simply be that the Singularity applies generally to all fields of human inquiry, which is of course incredibly vast. It's easier to go field by field; for instance, the Singularity for programming is generally considered to be the first self sufficient AI, when we will have effectively created something smarter than ourselves. Most in the field believe this will probably happen before 2050- and that's pessimistically.

"and that's pessimistically"? Don't pretend the pessimistic answer isn't that it's always going to be off in the distance just like the flying car.

I love Hanner's childlike curiosity. She seems so confused but intrigued by sex.

Something about your post is even creepier than my earlier one.  :police:

Why do you feel the need to make a new post when you have another post that's still the last one? Lrn 2 modify button.
Because I'm lazy, lazy.

There, I said it, it's out in the open, thank you.

And there's that other thing, of course, but I guess a.) being older and b.) being a net.veteran doesn't count for c.) diddly-squat among the young hipster audience around here.
I only mentioned it because you did it twice, twice in this thread. Didn't mean anything by it.

And I object to being thrown in with the hipsters. Mostly because I'm still not clear on what a hipster is.

"and that's pessimistically"? Don't pretend the pessimistic answer isn't that it's always going to be off in the distance just like the flying car.
What I meant was that that's pessimistic compared to the one's who think it'll happen by 2020.

No, we really don't.
I don't want to see a fan art out of that...
I do *angry mob gathers*

Y'know, if she'd just labeled that box "Keep" like all the rest, this awesome never would've happened.

...so she should've marked all her Keep boxes "Party Favors".

Once Dora gets settled in I'm sure that she would be happy to give Hanners some demonstrations.

Figuratively speaking, of course.
