Patrick:
Shit dude. That can't be fun. I've never had problems that bad, nor a landlord that sketchy. Exactly how long has this been happening?

Emaline:
We called him yesterday. So today would be the third day.

But this is on top of him taking a month to replace our refrigerator, 3 weeks to replace our dishwasher, and god only knows how long it has been since the lawn has been mowed. This may all sound really nit picky, but the appliances are in our lease, and he refused to comp us for the extra expenses we had to take on due to his incompetence. Our neighbors are loud, and one constantly has the entire building smelling like pot. And it's not like we live in a terrible area! We live in a pretty decent part of town.

I'm actually beginning to think he has something against us. We've been living here the longest, and all the other people in the building are new. Maybe he is charging them more in rent? And is trying to get us to leave so he can get someone else to pay more. It's frustrating because we recently, we got Direct Tv, and even though there are two other satellites on the roof, he made us put ours in the backyard, in a patch of weeds that constantly overgrow(since he's not so keen on lawn care), and because of that, our signal is usually blocked. Every week or so we go out there ourselves and cut all the weeds down.

HiFranc:
Emaline, it was a landlord that was slow at fixing things that was one of things that prompted me to buy my own place.[1]  I can't say whether the landlord is actively trying to kick you out (not being there) but, if the other tennants are paying more than you, he may simply give them higher priority for repairs.

[1] The other was realising that, if I wanted the mortgage paid off by the time I retire, I had to get hurryng.

KvP:
I'm a little frustrated now, even without all the recent drama in here. Hearing about Sam's loss brought me back a few weeks to when my cat died and there were exactly 3 people here who seemed to notice how shit I felt - BrittanyMarie, Squawk and Jeans. I don't really know two of those people, but I like all of them a lot. And I like a lot of you guys too! I think it might be petty and I'm frustrated by the way I feel now, but it hurts me a lot to see such an outpouring of support here now and there was all of three people who were there for me even a scant bit when I was suffering one of the greater losses in my life. In fact in the sum total of my meat and net life it was those three people and my therapist who had any sort of presence - nobody was calling back, nobody was reassuring me of anything. I lost my best friend of 19 of my 23 years and it was like being dropped somewhere where no one spoke my language. It's made me a good deal more cynical than I was before. I don't know, maybe I wasn't saying the right things. Maybe my cat should've been a dog. Maybe June was just not working out for anyone.

So yeah, reading the last few pages has brought all that back. It's been too long now so just in case anyone was thinking of it, it's been a month and I'd rather you not act like it happened yesterday. These things just sort of happen. Just, I don't know, try to be more considerate of each other in the future? I know a whole lot of you see this thread as a rubbish bin for mindless navel-gazing at best and an arena for sniping at one another at worst but honestly a lot of times it shouldn't even really matter what you think of one another. Some people put a lot of stock in these internet connections. It'd be nice if that was warranted more often than not.

Anyway, Sam, I know how you feel. 13 years is a long life and you have to know that not a single minute of it wasn't worth it for either of you. I'm sorry for your loss.

*edited to tone it down a little bit.

Jimmy the Squid:
Dude I didn't even know you had a cat.
