because his brand new girlfriend is now also a brand new coworker that he is going to have to work with and see every day, which is a pretty potentially dangerous combination.
if this girl is as cool as you make her out to be, though, i'm sure things will be fine. just relax and let things happen. keep the pda to a minimum at work, try not to have sex in the employee bathroom too often. you know, the usual etiquette.
