Marigold and Angus are in the bedroom. Momo and Ichiro are in the closet...
Prince of Space:
--- Quote from: no one special on 12 Feb 2010, 05:18 ---This is what I was afraid of. Marigold is gonna get hurt, 'cause she's crushin' on Angus, and Angus (who has no romantic interest in her) is too oblivious to realize it and nip it in the bud. Which is not necessarily abnormal, but he just doesn't realize what's he's doing to Marigold, and it's sad to me.
--- End quote ---
They've *just* recently started getting to know each other, right?
Just for a second, put yourself in Angus' shoes. I know he's (at least how I see it) an oblivious, snarky, witty boy...but he's kind of breaking some social boundaries here. Especially since he knows Marigold is shy/introverted. Does anyone else see him as being a little too oblivious? I just wonder what a real person would be thinking here. I don't know how I'd feel if a guy I was just getting to know came into my bedroom and started dancing with me. There are only a few people you let into your personal space, you know?
And even if all that is just reading too much into the situation, he's just a little too condescending to her for my taste. "Heh, Yeah I could tell." I can see the double entendre, but jokes still help build Angus' character development. I already dislike him, but Jeph is going to give us more of a reason soon I bet. :(
Carl-E:
No, no, a thousand times, no!!
You're reading way too much into what's going on with Marigold and Angus. OK, he's snarky and witty, but he's also trying to treat his roomate as less of a shut in, and more of a friend. Marigold may get hurt, and Angus may be oblivious, but it's not intentional on his part!
There's not a line in this conversation that's intentional double entendre, either. The whole joke is that's it's an innocent conversation about the dancin' in the last two strips, and the punchline is how we read it!
Like Jeph said in a tweet, "That comic's gonna be quite the surprise for people working backwards through the archive in the future."
Mr. Doctor:
I really fail to see why there are some people thinking about Angus as an annoying guy...
I want to quote this because I found it perfect.
--- Quote from: raoullefere on 12 Feb 2010, 00:23 ---Still, there is this, for those who want to rake Angus over the coals for 'leading her on' (which I don't think he's intentionally doing); as inexperienced as Marigold is, she's almost guaranteed to get hurt the first time she sets her heart on someone. How many of us really get the first one right?
--- End quote ---
Yeah.. How many of us? Can you really blame Angus? And like Carl-E said, he's trying to treat her as less of a shut in which I think it's wonderful... And this is coming from some dude who is kind of a shut in most of the time.
senatorexlax:
I would also mention that they are not just now getting to know each other. They have lived together, which probably means they have known each other for at least a little while. Angus was probably content to let Marigold play WoW all the time before, but now that they both are starting to interact with a new group of people, he has a strong reason to make her more comfortable with being social. He wants her to be able to come and enjoy spending time with him and all these new folks. That's how I read the situation, at least.
