Perfect solution. (written by a male)
Is it cold in here?:
Celticgeek, help! I cannot remember the number of the strip where Tai rushes in announcing to Dora that Marten has given them permission to hook up and tells Dora all the reasons she should break up with Marten. It's believable that she was joking, of course.
EDIT: 1400
raoullefere:
Akronnick, I'm sure Marten and Dora know that's not going to happen—and Dora'd have to have had a lobotomy to dump Marten for Tai, anyway, for the reasons I mentioned above. So they know she's not serious. But I'm not quite so sure Tai knows that.
The more I think about it, the more it reminds me of those occasions when your older brother brings a super hot girl from college, one who makes things worse by treating you like a person instead of a plague-bearer the way the girls your age do. It's so bad you actually slip and let your feelings show. Your brother and the girl are in haha, how-cute-is-that mode, and you laugh, too, on the surface. But inside…
…inside you'd like to say what Tai said to Marten, only you know your brother will beat you senseless if he thinks you have serious intentions towards his girl. Tai knows Marten won't.

Human deviousness on the field of love knows no bounds. It's not flirting, exactly, but it works, sometimes. I mean, Tai scored a hug, didn't she?
akronnick:
I see your point, and your interpretation is a definite possibility, I just think that Tai is just being honest, not trying to be devious.
It's the "basically" that makes me think that Tai would like to meet someone like Dora, not Dora herself. Without that, then Tai's statement would be more in line with your interpretation.
We'll have to see how this arc plays out (but then isn't that how it always is?).

I don't know why people say this so much.

Take it up with Darwin.

Darwin never said that.
raoullefere:
Sorry. Didn't mean to imply Tai is devious (although I see I did); you're right, she's not. Very few people who live on the outer cells of their epidermis the way she seems to are.
