I'm really unclear how a comedy film that's playing around with Lovecraft's work will piss on his grave or anything. It seems a bit like saying Dracula: Dead And Loving It was insulting to Bram Stoker. Admittedly in that case the parody was better than the book which is a bit of a downer if you're the author, but that's unlikely here. Lovecraft is not above being used for some jokes, nothing is.

We kind of need to come up with a new term to differentiate nice, normal, sane geeks from the creepy, obsessed, fanfic-writing swamp spawn.

(actually is that what the difference between geeks and nerds is?)

Geeks are deeply uncool about one specific subject, nerds are fairly uncool about a whole range of subjects.

Or to put it another way, they're the hedgehogs and foxes of the social outcasts.

(Except then you've got the whole "uncool is cool" thing and "geek chic" thing but let's not get into that now because it's besides the point.)
