I leave for Boot Camp Today...

Carl-E:
You learn a LOT more than how to kill people.

You learn discipline.  You learn respect.  You learn how to learn something new.  I've had a lot of former military, and they make the best students - no messing around, they focus on task and work like hell.

And there's nothing more valuable than that to an employer.

You'll see, when you get out - you'll think the world has changed, but it hasn't - you have.

And you get to wear jars on your head and get told what to do!

I accidentally called the Major in charge of my flight a cadet when I was at officer training.

The results weren't pretty.

I also splashed one of the cadet instructors with coffee when I almost sent her coffee cup into low orbit.  It was her fault though, she shouldn't have been walking just outside of my field of vision while I was a road guard.  The push-ups I did for that little stunt were absolutely worth it though, especially after I learned awhile later that the incident had become sort of a legend at the camp.

But the best thing I saw happen was when a cadet instructor backed a van into a lamppost and nearly knocked it over.  She didn't just tap the post either; I had no idea steel could bend and flex and wobble like that, and it left a nice big V notch in the van's fender.
