But that wasn't similar- it was after the fact, and defnitely not permission/approval seeking. More of a guilty admission, followed by concern for Marten's feelings. And his response made it pretty clear that it wasn't an issue!

Oh, just the first 500 or so comics, where the main romantic tension was the seemingly eternal
will-they-or-won't-they, Marten patiently waiting for Faye to be ready... He took her in, was her best friend, wanted her, was patient and gentlemanly, and as we all know, never got her.

But... but... look, Marten's not her father/older brother, he's not Angus' best bud (ok, maybe he is, we don't really know much about Angus' social life), there's no reasonable (or even unreasonable) reason for him to be pissed about her dating Angus!
And she even admits as much in then next panel, she's just being junior high about it.
I dunno, it just seemed to come from left field. And apparently it won't be resolved with the next comeek!

And i maintain there IS (theoretically, potentially, but Marten's so good-natured, not really) - Marten did everything he could for almost five hundred strips to date Faye, and now she's about to give this Angus-come-lately the prize she never gave him. Didst thou skim those first few hundred QCs and miss Marten's long-drawn-out frustration, punctuated by punchings?
Is it cold in here?:
The similarity is that in both cases Faye was worried that Marten would be offended that after telling him she couldn't date anybody, that she was doing something with someone other than him.
EDIT: Is Marten good-natured, or just overcontrolled? Shuddering is in order at the thought of what would happen if he finally snapped.
