Live action people look real because the acted by real people. Unless you live in Cool World or Toontown then you don't experience people who look like those in most comics.
{edit}In the case of books, people tend to imagine real-looking people when reading.
Is it cold in here?:
Being "hot" is part of the characterization for some of them (someone was explicitly called hot by another character as early as strip 6). Is that true of Tai, though? In the girl-drama she's told Marten about, she's more often the pursuer than the pursued.
