I plucked a random person off the internet to play Minecraft cooperatively with - since multiplayer servers are too much of doing your own stuff alongside other people - and we got a LAN game running over Hamachi in like two minutes of meeting each other. It's ridiculously easy. The only downside is that the port number changes every time you open a world for LAN play, but aside from that, it's like a local server where you can switch worlds on the fly.
If anyone wants to join me in a game of survival on a fresh, virgin world, give me a shout and I'll patch you into the LAN.

There's something incredibly satisfying about completing major building projects in survival without any "help" add ons isn't there?

so I finally actually paid for Minecrack and would like to start playing multiplayer. any of you folks doing this still?

Just in time for the new update! I loaded up a new world, and it now has an 'AMPLIFIED' option. This is the result:
