It certainly doesn't delegitimize anything that's already been made, but it seems to me there comes a point when the label means less and the direction of the music that is referred to in a certain way loses its relation to the original meaning. Dubstep is the fastest that I've ever known that to happen to a genre, but it seems that it has.

When everybody calls something dubstep, and then someone goes to a "dubstep" show and is totally confused, then there is obviously a problem in the genre. And myself, I'd just as soon forget about it as a confused and frustrating genre than invest more time and money into it. Certainly living in the South the "dubstep" around me is going to tend to be the skronky nonsense, and to separate the wheat from the chaff is something I have very little interest in. Especially when the most basic and simple communication about what in general something is (the genre label) is intrinsically flawed.

Reminds me of this vid I saw a few weeks ago.  The top comment at the time was something like:

"More of a parody of dubstep than of the actual song"

I've never heard the original and thanks to that vid, I probably never will.

Yeah there's so much crap on youtube like that that I'm starting to think there is a DonkDJ for Dubstep somewhere that people are just feeding every new video that gets posted on youtube.
