Green Lantern

Blue Kitty:
According to my local comic book guy there's a website that collects all the facebook updates and tweets that ask, "Why isn't there a black man in Green Lantern?"

I had pretty much lost hope for this movie around the time they announced Ryan Reynolds as Hal. I don't mean to sound rude but I sort of can't stand Ryan Reynolds. Partly because he reminds me Dane Cook (who I loathe) if he took a fucking shower, and partly because I haven't ever really liked any character he has played. I always thought Nathan Fillion would have been a perfect Hal Jordan, and saw no reason he wasn't considered for the part. The trailer just served to confirm all my fears about the movie and add in some new ones. Seriously, I can't for the life of me think of why they chose Hector goddamn Hammond for the villain. He is about as lame as GL villains get, and doesn't really help set up the real villain, Sinestro. Also, hearing him say "The one thing Green Lanterns are is fearless, and that's not me" made me sad inside. They're turning Hal Jordan who is about as fearless and strong-willed of a character as has ever existed into a blubbering pussy, and that's just not okay. DC needs to get their shit together with every franchise besides Batman and start making some good movies for a change. They have the capability to put out a much better product (if you've seen the animated movies of late, you understand how excellent they are) but sit there and fester in what was cool rather than making what will be cool.

tl;dr : The movie sucks and DC sucks for making it.

Bottom-line is all we've seen so far is the trailer. Is it in every fans nature to predict the apocalypse when viewing a single trailer? Absolutely. It's fun to speculate the worse in everything, especially when the character that we know might not be represented in the same light how we remember him when growing up.

I myself am a huge fan of Hal Jordan. I have faith in this movie because Geoff Johns (current comic writer for Green Lantern) is on board with the project, and I follow the saying "In Geoff Johns we trust".

I'll reserve any negative judgements until after I've seen the movie. As for fans being furious that John Stewart isn't the Green Lantern, it makes me laugh. Any quick Google search will show you he was no where close to being the original. That one is DC's fault because of the JLU cartoons.

Trailers can teach us a great deal about a movie though. The trailer for RED made it very clear that I should not expect a movie that was faithful to the comic, but an action comedy with an A-list cast. That helped me enjoy the movie more (though I still wouldn't watch it again). This trailer has told me all the things I was worried about may well be coming to fruition as far as this movie goes, and my love for Geoff Johns's work is not really strong enough to offset the poor characterization and stylistic choices I can already see coming. It's a heads up, to me at least, that I will probably not like this movie and should not get excited.
