Bluesummers:
One of my cats used to meow us goodnight before climbing up into her perch. Now she just walks on top of us and kneads our legs until she gets tired of it, then falls asleep on one of us.

Barmymoo:
Our cats don't know the word bedtime, but they recognise the movements that suggest someone is going to bed, and they respond accordingly by heading to the kitchen for their last-thing-at-night biscuits (I'm not sure how this habit emerged, I think it's to encourage them to stay inside instead of going to find birds and mice to dismember on the kitchen carpet).

celticgeek:
We used to have a cat that "counted" us.  She would walk over us after we had gone to bed.  The "counting" came to light one night when I was on a business trip, and she walked over my wife several times, instead of her usual once.  This happened the whole time I was gone (three days).  We checked with our children, and they confirmed that she walked over them after they had gone to bed, and that she had walked over them several times while I was gone.

Barmymoo:
For a moment I thought you meant that the cat just counted someone else to make up for the missing person - but you mean that she was checking she hadn't made a mistake, right? That's pretty cool!

celticgeek:
Yes, she was counting everybody, every night.  But when I was gone, she had to keep checking to see if she had made a mistake.
