I was one of those kids that got beat up by bigger kids on the school bus in 5th grade because I refused to evolve my Pikachu since I was too attached to it.

No offense dude, but FUCK your pikachu. I hate that rat. They keep adding shit that makes him as good as, if not better than his much cooler evolved form. Also he's EVERYWHERE.
Blastoise is the best anyway.

I actually found an old Game Boy Color and Pokemon Yellow at a bazaar several months back and played through it. After being absolutely goddamn sick of my level 26 Pikachu getting owned by evolved Pokemon several levels lower than him (without type advantage), I gave in and forced that son of a bitch to evolve. Raichu all the way.

As I recall, un-evolved pokemon gained stats quicker, while evolved ones got earlier access to their abilities.
