Edit:  Was it mom who planted the suggestion that Dora'd be a good (alternative) choice for him?  After The Talk (60 strips later), was it mom's voice echoing in his head, saying "this could work...", and pushing him past the early warning signs? 

Naaaaaahh...  mommy was just expressing something everyone was thinking at that point. 

Just not Marten.

He had noticed that she was attractive as early as strip 200, though of course that's not the same as an emotional draw.
