Fun fact: I was named after this movie. It was my dad's uncle's favorite, and he died shortly before I was born.
Other fun fact: I saw True Grit this weekend. Fucking badass.
Scandanavian War Machine:
saw it last night. really excellent.
everything about it was superb. the only thing i could even imagine myself complaining about was the music: it wasn't bad by any stretch of the word, it was great actually. it just seemed a little cliched at times.
however, once i remembered that it's a remake of a john wayne movie, i easily filed the music under "intentional" since....it's a fucking john wayne movie. it's supposed to be like that.
every time i get depressed about the amount of crap that people are producing these days, i think about Coen brothers movies and i'm given a little hope. at least someone is leaving something worthwhile for the future to find, so they don't think we're all total idiots.
Border Reiver:
The wson't find the good stuff - but Uwe Boll's collected works will somehow survive.
Dazed:
See, I'm not viewing this as a remake of a John Wayne movie, and I don't think that's how it was intended. It's just a different telling of the story, they aren't trying to re-do John Wayne.
Professor Snuggles:
Yeah but they kind of are in some ways, there's a lot of necessary similarities in the story telling, like the dynamic between bridges and damon, that are incredibly reminiscent of the Wayne movies. It's not a remake of the movie so much as a remake of the book, sure, but it's still the same story with a lot of the same notes hit. That shouldn't be surprising.
