Anime anyone?
Taekwondoin:
--- Quote from: pwhodges on 12 Apr 2014, 06:55 ---I only rarely follow any new anime as broadcast (well, KlK is the only one I ever have), so that list means little to me at present.
Right now, I'm waiting for a copy of Mushi-shi to arrive, which is the next new thing I'll watch - I gather it has aspects in common with Kino's Journey (one of my very favourite series of all - relaxed, but deeply thoughtful), but less intellectual.
--- End quote ---
Mushishi also has a lot of horror themes, and can be pretty nihilistic at times. Having said that, it is still brilliant.
Cire27:
I really like Mushishi but I've never been able to watch more than two episodes in a row without falling asleep. It's not boring but the pace and color palette relax me into falling asleep in my chair.
Taekwondoin:
I started Brother, Dear Brother at the weekend, 5 episodes in so far (watching 1 a day) and I have to say it's bloody brilliant so far. I love that old shoujo style, and this is classic shoujo to the core, lots of melodrama, intrigue, scheming etc. And the characters are all so fab... Kouru no Kimi is love.
GarandMarine:
I started Usagi Drop last night... I ended up watching about half the season in a sitting, and my goddess the FEELS. Simply magnificent, the reaction of the family in the first episode to Rin was just heart rending...
I just realized that, "single adult male raises child alone" is a pretty common theme in anime. I wonder why that is...
Cire27:
I can only think of one other anime that deals with that trope and it has a totally different tone compared to Usagi Drop. And most people will tell you not to read the manga because of a certain time skip.
